📎 About the company
Akveo is an IT company specializing in web, mobile, low-code, and AI solutions for clients in the USA and Europe. We develop high-quality software products that help businesses automate processes and implement innovations. We are actively expanding into AI-driven solutions, leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance our products and services.
Akveo is a team of 100+ professionals. We have development centers in Poland and Lithuania, and representatives in the US.
Who we are looking for?
This is a hands-on role - roughly 70% architecture, coordination, and client-facing work, and 30% hands-on coding. You will own the target architecture, coordinate technical work across the Akveo and client teams, support delivery planning and estimation, and evaluate new client opportunities. You will work directly with a German client during European working hours in a small, focused cross-functional team.
About the project
The product is a scalable and highly automated industrial IoT platform used in manufacturing and agriculture. It connects industrial and edge systems to Azure services, processes streaming and operational data, and provides web and BI capabilities. The platform is customized for different end clients, so the role involves separating reusable platform capabilities from customer-specific customization.
The role combines solution architecture, technical leadership, delivery planning, estimation, and client-facing discovery. The project allows pragmatic adoption of new technologies when they provide measurable value.
Team: Typical total team size is 2–5 people. The Solution Architect coordinates technical work across both teams and works closely with the Product Owner on discovery, prioritization, planning, estimates, risks, and delivery trade-offs. The client is based in Germany; collaboration follows European working hours.

Responsibilities
Architecture ownership
- Own and evolve the platform's target architecture, keeping decisions aligned with product goals, security, scalability, reliability, and cost.
- Define system boundaries, component responsibilities, integration patterns, data flows, deployment topology, and non-functional requirements.
- Maintain practical architecture documentation that reflects the implemented reality.
- Identify architectural risks and technical debt, and drive a prioritized improvement backlog with stakeholders.
- Plan modernization of existing components without unnecessary rewrites or disruption to production.
Team coordination & technical leadership
- Coordinate technical work across backend, frontend, DevOps, and client-side contributors, aligning interfaces, dependencies, and priorities.
- Run solution-design and architecture-review sessions, and review critical or high-risk changes.
- Make timely technical decisions and document the reasoning.
- Resolve cross-team dependencies and unblock developers.
- Mentor engineers and grow senior developers into independent technical owners.
- Contribute hands-on to spikes, reference implementations, troubleshooting, and critical development work.
Client opportunities, planning & estimation
- Work directly with the client to understand business goals and constraints.
- Lead technical discovery, clarify incomplete requirements, and challenge assumptions before committing.
- Turn opportunities into solution options with clear scope, dependencies, risks, and trade-offs.
- Produce reasoned estimates with the team, clearly communicating assumptions and uncertainty.
- Present solutions, estimates, and delivery plans to the client and join regular client meetings.
Technology evaluation & prototyping
- Evaluate new technologies and industrial protocols against defined project needs.
- Build or coordinate prototypes for prospective clients and new platform capabilities.
- Document each evaluation with a clear adopt, defer, or reject recommendation.
Engineering quality & operations
- Define standards for API design, messaging, event schemas, security, observability, testing, deployment, and failure handling.
- Ensure new components include proper logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and operational docs.
- Support reliable, repeatable deployment using Azure, AKS, Terraform, Helm, Docker, and Azure Pipelines.
Requirements
Must have
- 6+ years in software engineering, including technical leadership or solution architecture for production systems.
- Strong .NET / C# background, with experience designing distributed, cloud-based production systems.
- Practical Azure architecture experience across compute, messaging, event-driven integrations, data processing, security, observability, reliability, deployment, and cost.
- Experience defining target architecture - system boundaries, component responsibilities, integration contracts, data flows, and deployment topology.
- Ability to turn business goals and incomplete requirements into solution options, scope, risks, delivery stages, and estimates.
- Experience coordinating backend, frontend, and DevOps contributors in a cross-functional team.
- Ability to lead technical discovery, architecture reviews, and critical implementation reviews.
- Ability to set engineering standards without becoming a bottleneck.
- Solid grasp of API design, asynchronous messaging, event schemas, backward compatibility, failure handling, testing, and production observability.
- Experience modernizing an existing platform without unnecessary rewrites or production disruption.
- Strong stakeholder communication - workshops, technical presentations, expectation management, and clear written documentation - including explaining trade-offs in business terms.
- English at B2 or above, sufficient for regular direct communication with the German client (discovery, planning, estimation, and technical decision-making).
Nice to have
- Architecture experience in industrial IoT or other edge-to-cloud platforms.
- Azure IoT Hub, IoT Edge, Device Provisioning Service, Event Hub, Service Bus, Stream Analytics, Data Explorer, and AKS.
- MQTT, Sparkplug B, OPC UA, Modbus, KepServer, or Kafka.
- Terraform, Helm, Docker, and Azure Pipelines.
- Databricks, PySpark, and Power BI.
- Experience building prototypes and technical proofs of concept.
- Experience with technical pre-sales and evaluation of new customer opportunities.
- Experience designing reusable multi-client or multi-tenant platform capabilities.
